Tricks & Treats: a massive Blixa – Neubauten Fix!
As I write this post, Nick Cave and Blixa Bargeld have already made history, reuniting for a spoken word performance in Hamburg, Germany, where each read various extracts from the English and German versions of Cave’s novel The Death of Bunny Munro. Those of you who had tickets for tonight’s ‘A Night With Nick Cave’ show- please post?! News and updates to follow!
Meanwhile, muhawwwwwwaaaaaaaaa! Neubauten are in da house!
Einstürzende Neubauten – NNNAAAMMM part 1 (Live 2000)
Einstürzende Neubauten – NNNAAAMMM part 2 (Live 2000)
MUSIC FIXES:
Einstürzende Neubauten, Den Bosch, NL (1985-08-26) (Soundboard quality) I got this one awhile back, tx to dear Azbest! Absolutely fabulous quality for an early Neubauten show, a must-have for those who missed this gem. For those who are just beginning to know Neubauten, here is something more recent, from my collection.
Einstürzende Neubauten (Live): AWO Tour, Oslo (2008-04-28)
EN Live in Oslo CD1 | EN Live in Oslo CD2
PODCAST INTERVIEW: Blixa Bargeld talks with Tony Dushane, on ‘Drinks with Tony’ (2007-11-01, San Francisco’s Pirate Cat Radio) (120 min) Download MP3
Anecdote: Tony Dushane, on Blixa’s 2007 appearance with Grinderman:
When Grinderman, Nick Cave’s side project, performed at the Great American Music Hall, Blixa was invited on stage to sing “The Weeping Song” for an encore. Grinderman had a very revved up version of the song and Blixa just sang it how it was recorded. Quite funny. Quite buzzed. “Blixa seemed pretty wasted when you played The Weeping Song at Great American Music Hall,” I said to Nick Cave.
“I should hope so,” he replied with a grin. (READ IT)
Great story! Tony, you’re so cool that I’m going to plug your book, Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk. (Cover)
Can you imagine how smashed these guys must be right now in Hamburg? Woooo-hooo. Keep it mild, boys. Or not.
HEY NICK AND BLIXA,
IT IS SATURDAY NIGHT AND WE ARE GETTING READY TO PARTY HERE IN CONNECTICUT. I WANT YOU TO KNOW WE’LL BE TOASTING YOU TWO GUYS TONIGHT, IN HOPES THAT YOU WILL FEEL THE LOVE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE WORLD. THANK YOU — FOR THE MUSIC. FOR THE MEMORIES. FOR ALL OF IT. (BOWS)
That’s it for the Blixa/EN fix. Cheers, everyone!

I have got about 40 minutes audio of the night in Hamburg
let me know if you want it…. I also have some pics, but unfortunately poor quality….

I travelled through three countries to see them together in Kampnagel, and it worth EVERY trouble. ^___________^
There’s another video now on Youtube from the evening, Do You Love Me Part II. (which Nick dedicated to his wife ^^):

In case some of you haven’t seen it, here’s a favorite of mine. Leave it to Blixa to sing a torch song with Die Haut.
Years later, Jochen Arbeit joins Neubauten. Yes all things are connected.

It seemed right to post a Weeping Song chronology. There is something gut-wrenching when you see these videos stacked here, one atop the other, like years, going farther and farther backwards in time. These are testaments, or perhaps, gospels. Certainly poems. I am overcome …forgive me.

PS: I’ve got about 10 seconds of Weeping Song footage from San Francisco ‘07 – I can put it up somewhere for you if you don’t already have it?

Thanks Caro and SoFar. I had to get offline rather suddenly last night and was unable to respond. The short little snip from G-Man was delightful. I have long fantasized about it. Nice to finally see. What happened to Blixa in the Werchter clip?

UPDATE ON BUNNY MUNRO HAMBURG READING
‘Ein Song ist schwierig, ein Roman ist Lust’
["A song is difficult, a novel is desire"]
http://www.kn-online.de/schleswig_holstein/kultur/118868-Ein-Song-ist-schwierig-ein-Roman-ist-Lust.html
Snip from audio transcript:
Nick: I love Blixa, and every day, I … you know…miss him and uh [laughter]. There’s a little altar I’ve made at home with special treasures from over the years that I pray to every morning in the hope that he’ll come back. [THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE]
Preparing their instruments:
Nick (to Blixa): ‘Strange, huh?’
[Crowd calling for The Weeping Song]
Nick: ‘It’s been … 10 years or something like that?’
Blixa: ‘See, we played it a couple of years ago in San Francisco. ‘
Nick: ‘Oh, okay. Definitely.
Blixa: ‘A couple of years …’
[Song begins, audio ends, sorry.

OMG! This was just what I needed, some really great Blixa-pics (the Bernd Kuehl one was just breathtaking!), a few I hadn’t seen before (and I’ve seen quite a lot
).
I’m now looking forward to here about last nights thing in Hamburg, I hope to see some video clips too. If I only could have been there! *sighs* But I’m at least going to see Blixa next friday in Copenhagen. My first time! (my husband, the bastard, have seen Neubauten three times!)
Btw, I really love your site! It’s great to see that there are more Nixa-lovers out there in the world ie.
I’m not that confident in writing in English though so I haven’t written any comments before, but I guess you understand most of what I’m trying to say.

Greetings, Ellen. Thank you for commenting. I’m glad you said hello and let us know you are out there. I am glad you enjoyed the Bernd Kuehl photo. I agree it is superb. Your husband is too lucky! Not a bastard, but I agree with the sentiment (abstractedly).
Please post after the Rede/Speech in Copenhagen?
My Munich friend saw Blixa in Vienna on 25 September, lucky lady had a front row seat. Blixa covered ‘One (is the loneliest number)’ by Three Dog Night. I saw the clip. The sound wasn’t great but fun to watch. She mentioned technology glitches and said that Blixa frequently ‘argued’ with sound engineer Boris using their private hand signals. Strange! But of course!
FYI: Blixa Bargeld – Rede/Speech – Tallinn – 16.10.2009 MADU’S PHOTOS (New hairdo, hmm? Ve approve, Mr. Bargeld.)

Here’s a part of Rede/Speech from Wroclaw recorded by my boyfriend (he’s seen EN live twice and has met them in person). I’ll upload the rest today – this is an encore, quite interesting because Blixa is speaking Polish here! The “sensospaghetti” word is in fact “Brzęczeszczykiewicz” and it’s a name from a popular movie; Blixchen’s puzzlement after hearing the Polish translation of “justice” (“sprawiedliwość”;)) is just pure gold. Lots of laughs here.

This “Halloween with the Bad Seeds Extravaganza” is simply great. For me autumn (when days are gloomy and nights are long) is best time for enjoying Cave (and Howard, and Bargeld and rest of the gang). So I want to add my 2 cents to this celebration. Here is list of all Bads Seeds and related gigs from my blog. I’ve linked some of this before, but now they are all in one place. Listen and enjoy.

Brilliant! A treasure trove. Thanks for gathering these links for us, Azbest. It might be useful if I put up a separate page for live shows, kind of like the Bulletin Board, where everybody can list their finds and make it easier to access them. (Pending)
The NC&tBS 1986 Bochum show is an all time favorite (the Funeral Tour). Wonderful, wonderful. (Still have to listen to Stockholm 1987, tx again for that one). Also, the 1985 Edinburgh show is a biggie, in part because of the unusual lineup and setlist (a lot of Birthday Party energy there). It’s the UK leg of the Firstborn is Dead Tour. Rowland replaces Blixa who is recording Halber Mensch. Barry Adamson is replaced by Christoph Dreher (Die Haut). Also, this is Thomas Wydler’s first tour with the band, and he’s the last remaining member of the original Bad Seeds.
BTW: I enjoyed the way you set this up as a seasonal thing. Yes, this is the time of year when we need our music to nourish us. As the sun recedes and our half of the world is cloaked in darkness, we draw closer to the hearth fires, to the warm circles of our friends, and to the solace of books and music.
There is something soul affirming about giving one another little treats from our respective villages across the world. All is possible because of these wonderful machines that collapse time and space in this ‘Wild World’. Would any of us have met otherwise?
