‘Extra tickets’ for Paris on sale tomorrow.

Would like to know where the extra tickets come from? Seems to be a complete lack of openness and transparency in concert ticketing!

It would be nice to think that they are tickets which they have not sent to identified scalpers, but I doubt that!

About the festivals: Mick Harvey’s main complaint on his last tour with the Bad Seeds was that the songs suffered when played in the festival setting. Grinderman will do alright, tho.

Tangentially: Probably a totally unfair comparison but Gogol Bordello can handle any sized crowd no matter what songs they play. I’ve seen Eugene Hutz do impromptu guitar solos in stairwells and then go out and play for 70,000 people and both performances had the same impact. He’s got that ‘knock em dead’ gift. Amazing, considering that Eugene plays an amplified acoustic guitar and the band doesn’t hide behind the sheer volume of electrified instrumentation. I don’t think GB can be matched under any circumstances in terms of versatility, audacity and crowd-pleasing entertainment. I make no apologies for loving this band. Here’s a favorite live clips Hurricane Festival 2011. If you dig GB, enjoy. It gets really good after 3.34 when they start Last One Goes the Hope, one of my favorite songs.

From what we have heard so far, it is difficult to imagine the new songs played at a festival.

The Bad Seeds and Grinderman have been confirmed for Coachella in April. I wonder if more West Coast dates will be added now? e.g. the San Diego date which was rumoured months ago.

Great to see that Grinderman are still going.

I was amazed to hear that G-Man will play Coachella. Is he going to tour concurrently with both bands this summer? Omg.

I have not heard much good about Sandbag.

The London presale and General Sale was done through Gigs and Tours and See Tickets.

    Received my ticket yesterday.

Pre-sale was also horrible for Berlin, though they only sold personalized tickets. Luckily I got a ticket anyway ;)

I think for Berlin it had more to do with the shop on the website. Its crappy and I might be wrong but I have the feeling Sandbag are not very good in what they do, they have very nice admins for the site, but things always go terribly wrong. You can send them the data they want the one day and 5 days later they write you again that you should do what you already did.

    Thanks Morgan. Very interesting read.

Fortunately I got a ticket for London in the general sale but it was a nightmare as the tickets went in seconds! Lots of unhappy people but lots of happy scalpers!

Very pleased to be going though.

@Free, sorry to hear this but not unexpected. You can bet that the cherry seats for Nick Cave were already given out before the so-called ‘pre-sale’ even began. Since I first posted the comments about scalpers, I’ve been watching this thing and doing some digging. The scalpers are not other fans making a profit off extra tickets. It’s gig promoters and the primary ticket agents that are doing this crap. Live Nation and Ticketmaster make huge profits by allocating large blocks of tickets for resellers before they even go on sale. The concert promoters skim the cream of the tickets and resell them at highly inflated prices via so-called ‘premium partners’. Investigative evidence suggests that artists are aware of and in some cases complicit in the practice. If you think about it, all parties involved are actually complicit in the scalping. The fans are the ones who suffer. You can draw your own conclusions but I’ll just post what I’ve found in case anyone wants to know.

    Here’s a UK story from Feb 2012

Viagogo defends sale of promoters’ ticket

“On Thursday night’s Dispatches programme, fans were shown complaining that tickets were resold at higher prices on secondary ticketing websites within minutes of events selling out. They also complained that they had believed they were buying from other fans, rather than promoters, and said they had less chance of buying tickets at face value. Dispatches alleged that Live Nation, which works with artists including Madonna and U2, and SJM Concerts, which works with One Direction and Jessie J, had allocated large numbers of tickets to Viagogo.”

“If promoters put tickets into the secondary market then the result is that prices are brought down whilst also ensuring that some of the tickets available in the secondary are actually genuine ones,” the CPA said in a statement. The secondary market was “effectively being used as a premium price primary market for those fans who wish to use it for convenience”, it added. Those fans would be happier that a premium paid “went to the artist via the promoter rather than went to a tout”, it said.

Here’s the one about Ticketmaster and undercover investigations:

    Ticketmaster facing ticket scalping allegations
    Nov 14, 2012

“Ticketing giant Ticketmaster is facing new allegations that the company withheld tickets from the recent general on sale for a Nashville, TN Lady Gaga concert, only to list the tickets for sale with significant price mark-ups on secondary ticketing websites.

According to an investigation by Nashville’s NewsChannel 5, five tickets for the concert were found for sale at above face value prices on secondary ticketing site StubHub. NewsChannel 5 traced the source of those tickets back to Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation, with the tickets designated for “Live Nation executives” in internal documents.

In response to the report by NewsChannel 5, Ticketmaster spokesperson Jacqueline Peterson denied that the company was involved in any ticket resale, telling NewsChannel 5 that the “tickets were put on sale to the general public, then purchased by a scalper and put on StubHub.”

These most recent allegations of withholding tickets from onsales and reselling them on secondary ticketing sites are hardly the first for Ticketmaster. A separate investigative report by Nashville’s NewsChannel 5 uncovered documents that appear to indicate that Ticketmaster cultivates relationships with independent brokers and provides tickets to the brokers for resale at marked up prices.

Among the documents were emails from Live Nation’s former CEO Isaac Azoff to ticket broker Chuck Lombardo discussing with Lombardo the benefits of Live Nation and Ticketmaster’s merger to Lombardo’s business. Ticketmaster has stated that these and other documentation found were evidence of “old business practices.”

Also cited in the NewsChannel 5 report was an undercover investigation by a British television crew from earlier in 2012. During the investigation, the undercover reporter was told by a broker that Live Nation has a deal in place with that particular seller so that any profits from resold tickets are split 90/10, with Live Nation taking the lion’s share of the split.

According to the documents that Ticketmaster itself filed in court, the company paid [professional scalper] Lombardo to help Neil Diamond secretly scalp his own tickets. Celine Dion is also mentioned, as are the Eagles and numerous other acts.

FWIW: When legislators get involved, stuff happens, but they show a selective interest.

Sen. Schumer attempts to stop inauguration scalpers on eBay, Craigslist
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York announced Thursday that eBay and Craigslist have promised to try to stop scalpers from making a mint by reselling tickets to President Barack Obama’s inauguration this weekend.

Same old shit again today with the so called pre-sale. No ticket although I was on the button when they allegedly went on sale. Needless to say they are now on the scalpers websites!

If it is true that the San Diego tickets go on sale on 6th December, then I would guess that the tour will be announced very shortly – Maybe next Monday once the single is out? – and that all tickets will go on sale on the 6th December.

Perhaps we can expect the tour to start in Europe in late February and continue through March before hitting the US in late March.
