Welcome to The Dark Side.
Ghosts of the Civil Dead – directed by John Hillcoat (1988)
This post marks the 21-night countdown to Halloween, a celebrated occasion at here at Nick Cave Fixes. From now until Fright Night, we will present the stuff of nightmares, culled from the darkest recesses of Count Cave’s psyche.
Your host on our journey is Maynard, a sordidly handsome, hopelessly depraved character, who insists he is Count Cave’s Alter Ego. Now that you’ve met him – and witnessed his behavior up close and personal via the clip – we can proceed.
We’ve chosen Maynard (perhaps at our own peril) to open our annual celebration of the gruesome and macabre with songs he particularly enjoys. For one thing, he claims that Nick Cave sings them with ‘his voice’. If I were you, I’d believe the psychotic S.O.B.
Under the page cut are Maynard’s favorite videos, which he selected via the closed circuit TV bolted to the wall of his filthy prison cell. I’m told he was rather excited after the viewing.
The TV did not survive.
