Making of Tupelo – Documentary Clip

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds: Making of Tupelo
Excerpted from VH-1 Documentary, ‘Straight to You’ (1994)
*Video clip no longer available*

This clip opens with Nick Cave performing ‘Pleasure is the Boss’, with Die Haut, in August 1992, at Berlin’s Tempodrome. That’s Christoph Dreher, on bass, behind Nick. Christoph directed the Tupelo video in July 1985. This is a short behind the scenes glimpse (everybody gets pretty wasted, so be prepared).

If you’re interested in watching the rest of that smoking performance with Die Haut, I recommend trying to find a copy of Die Haut and Friends, Sweat (WSFA 140V/Triple X 51184-3, 1993) — live video from Tempodrom, Berlin, August 1992, 66 minutes, directed by Rolf S. Wolkenstein. (VHS only).

Line up:

Christoph Dreher bass/ Rainer Lingk guitar/ Jochen Arbeit guitar/ Thomas Wydler drums/ Guest vocalists: Nick Cave, Blixa Bargeld, Lydia Lunch, Kid Congo Powers, Anita Lane, Alex Hacke.

Set List (performer):

*Victory (Die Haut)
*P.S.Y.C.H.O. (Die Haut)
*(You Seen) Angel Jesus? (vocal: Kid Congo Powers)
*In The Heat Of The Night (vocal: Kid Congo Powers)
*Jenseits Von Eden (vocal: Alex Hacke)
*Doggin’ (vocal: Lydia Lunch) — (viewable on YouTube)
*Johnny Guitar (vocal: Blixa Bargeld)
*Subterranean World/How Long? (vocal: Blixa Bargeld, Anita Lane)
*Sad Dark Eyes (vocal: Nick Cave)
*Pleasure Is The Boss (vocal: Nick Cave)

*Truck Love (vocal: Nick Cave, Alex Hacke) (m3u audio)

Hope you enjoyed today’s fix. More on Die Haut next post.

  1. Well, it’s a drag that this clip is in German. Hmmm. Okay, well, Christoph basically says that they love playing with Nick, having met him while on tour with The Birthday Party. These guys had a mind meld. Most of us know that Nick lived with Christoph, in Berlin, while writing ATASTA. That’s not the half of it, but…… it’s all for tonite…
