Wild World – The Birthday Party 1983

In yesterday’s 1980s retro post, I included an mp3 of ‘Wild World’, by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, from Edinburgh, 4-16-1985, where Rowland S. Howard replaces Blixa Bargeld (on tour with Neubauten).  Some of you wanted to see the original Birthday Party version.  Here ya go!

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds – Wild World (Live)
Hammersmith Apollo, June 7, 2003

Deb and I were talking about this performance, noticing that Nick seems to be exorcising his demons going by the shrieking wails that come out of him.  The atmosphere of the Hammersmith Apollo concert was somber and funereal.  The fans are asked to stay in their seats and The Bad Seeds are dressed in black.  Nick is mourning the loss of his long time man, Blixa Bargeld, on this the first Bad Seeds tour without him as a member.  We love you both.  We will miss you, Blixa.

  1. Azbest, thank you for that! I have a distinct weakness for Nick’s cover of Alice Cooper’s, “I’m 18”, considering he was so young at the time……

Is it getting warm in here? 😀

  2. kick it, squeeze it, strangle it, wrestle it, send it forth, send it out to do your dirty work, release it, liberate it. so many things come to mind.

    i love this performance.

  3. Wild World is my favorite song of The Birthday Party 🙂

And my favorite version of this song is the one at West Point Jazz Festival, in Hamburg in 1999 (Nick Cave solo show) 😛
