Nick & Kylie: Big Day Out 1996

Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave – Backstage & ‘Where the Wild Roses Grow’

From ‘Ritual Habitual’ – the documentary of Australia’s Big Day Out Festival, 1996
I love this footage. Nick meets Kylie’s mum. 😉 There’s Blixa with his beekeeper hat.

  1. I miss this documentary!!! Does anybody know where I can get a copy of “Ritual Habitual – Big Day Out ’96 – A Documetary”? I’ve tried eBay, and many other avenues, and still cannot find it. I used to own a VHS copy but unfortunately it was stolen. Best doco I’ve seen in years!! Feel free to contact me via email with any suggestions… oh and check my band… Tranzphat

  2. The hat, indeed. 🙂 A variation on the number that he wore for PDR interviews. I think we’ve told the story about that fool reporter who grabbed one of Blixa’s hats. Great anecdote. One of the best. I still can’t find the source, damnit.

Bob, Andrea, Beth, Monica – I’m glad you enjoyed the clip. Most of us have seen it but for those who have not, I will upload a few more small bits later on, perhaps as a ‘BDO Part 2’ post. Screen caps would be nice, hmm? 😛

    • Morgan, I don’t have the source for the legendary story you mention, but here’s more on hats:

Sat in a London hotel room, in loud pinstripe suit and a curious fur lined hat, he talks in a deep lugubrious voice – and in excellent English!

      trakMARX – I like your hat…

BARGELD – “I got it in New York. It’s a Tibetan hat. The fur cuts twenty decibels of sound away from my ears! Which is useful in certain situations…”

(John Robb’s interview with Blixa Bargeld for TraxMarx – http://www.trakmarx.com/2006_05/07_blixa-bargeld.htm)

      Sorry for the offtopic. 🙂

      • Blixa off topic? Hahahahahaha! You are only joking. I love that John Robb interview — it’s on my list for the Seele Brennt archives. If you have not read it, TrakMarx did a fab write up on Nicky: ’25 Years Of Love, Hate, Drugs And Death’ by Kris Needs
http://www.trakmarx.com/2006_02/05_cave_f.htm It mentions the ‘good old junkie days’ and of course, Blixa is in there with the rest of it. 🙂
