Les Inrockuptibles – Nick Cave Special Edition

Les Inrockuptibles has just released a special edition of its magazine about Nick Cave. You can order the mag through their website. The paper version comes with a cd called “Jubilee Street – The Roots of Nick Cave” with selected tracks from artists who have influenced him. It includes: The Velvet Underground, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, Nina Simone, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, John Lee Hooer and Hank Williams.

  1. Some drugs and a piano seem to be enough these days to call it an influence, Mark 😀

Well I can imagine it’s because they are in a way (though for totally different reasons) to the same artists maybe? Like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Hank Williams and so on?

Mentioning Elvis makes me think of “Release The Bats”, that was the first song that I ever heard of the TBP in a record store and I was like “Wow Nick Cave did Rockabilly in the past?” I should learn better though 😉
