Jonathan Ganley shoots Nick Cave at Auckland (reprise)

Most of you are familiar with our friend Jonathan Ganley’s photo essay and recollections of The Birthday Party’s 1983 Auckland Show. This time, Jon was guest photographer at the  Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds December 6th concert at Auckland Civic.  Above is one of Jon’s analog images of the evening. I love the old-timey quality of this shot, with the gauzy back light and that iconic spectral shadow of Cave pointing at his audience. More here.*

Jonathan Ganley official site: pointthatthing.

Graham Reid wrote a great article describing the evening:

“Nick comes on to rousing applause, walking like a slightly drunken gazelle….

He tells a funny story about his first meeting with former Bad Seed Blixa Bargeld who would only speak German to him (“and I didn’t speak German”) but then eventually spoke in perfect English.

Someone ask when was the last time he saw the late Birthday Party member Roland S Howard: “We had lunch together in Fitzroy St in St Kilda. Mick Warren and I ran into him, we talked about stuff . . . and then he borrowed $50!”

I thought that since we won’t get any new album in the near future that I’d share a bootleg once in a while.

Just a little note, most of my bootlegs comes from Dime. Please respect the work of the tapers. Meaning to keep the files as you have downloaded them (no reencoding) with the text file containing all the info. And most of all: DO NOT RESELL THEM.

Anyway after seeing Kylie Minogue in concert last week, I got nostalgic of her duet with Nick and looked up some of their performances together so today I am sharing this 1996 bootlegs. Download here.

Nick Cave UK & European Spring Tour 2015

October 5, 2014 2 comments

Nick Cave will be touring The UK and Europe this Spring. He will be joined by Warren Ellis, Barry Adamson, Thomas Wydler and Martyn Casey for more intimate concert. According to Nick Cave: “The aim is to try to create a unique show – something special and out of the ordinary.”

Here is the full list of concerts. Note that a 2nd London date has been added on May 2nd at the Apollo Hammersmith. Most cities are already sold out (thank you scalpers!). In case you weren’t lucky to grab a ticket, feel free to join the group I’ve created on Facebook which will help fans get connected to swap/sell their unwanted tickets.

A Helluva Big Holiday Fix

December 24, 2013 6 comments

Merry Christmas!

In this post, I’ve included a list of Bad Seeds shows that I recently found online. From what I was able to sample, the quality is very good. I especially recommend the 1990 show (a few comments below). Most do not have setlist info but you can find mostly everything at Nick Cave Collector’s Hell.

: These files are NOT hosted at Nick Cave Fixes. The audio player, however, contains the host link so that you can listen here.

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds [1985-04-21] Escape Club Brighton UK

Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds [1990-09-20] Vic Theatre Chicago IL

Opens with The Mercy Seat. On The Weeping Song Nick introduces Blixa and points out that he is German. They don’t flub the lyrics!  Lovely rendition of Foi Na Cruz. Intense version of The Carney. Nick says he doesn’t understand this country. (We don’t either, Nick, and we live here.)  Audience noise in between numbers but the songs are clear and well-recorded.  Fabulous concert from The Good Son tour.  I really enjoyed it.

More shows follow, lots from Push the Sky Away tour. Enjoy!
