DVD release: B-Movie. Lust & Sound in West-Berlin

Back in February I was telling you about the “rockumentary” B-Movie. Lust & Sound in West-Berlin. The movie is now available on dvd through Amazon Germany.

The dvd is region free and comes with French subtitles (it is narrated in English).

Also if Arte is available in your country, the movie is being aired a couple more times. Check the website for the exact date/time. You can also stream it here (it takes a few seconds before it starts playing, be patient!)

On top of the dvd, there is also a super cool bundle available for €99 with the movie, tote bag, vinyls, soundtracks, etc A must have for any fans of this era.

A Nixa Valentine Smooch

NIxa look-alikes Alexander Scheer and Marc Hosemann smooch in a sleazy neon-lit flamingo lounge.  Even their movie alter egos are in love with each other.  Life is full of wonderful surprises.  Thank you Oskar Roehler!  Tod den Hippies – Es Lebe der Punk! VIEW ON FACEBOOK

Tod den Hippies – Es lebe der Punk! (Death to the Hippies – Long Live Punk!)

An homage to the Berlin punk scene circa 1980’s, directed by Oskar Roehler.

Setting: West Berlin, early 1980s, the birth of punk. Tom Schilling (Oh Boy) plays 19 year-old Robert, a boy from the provinces who runs away from the hometown hippies and jumps with both Doc Martens into the sex, drugs, and Punk scene of the Island city.  He finds work at a peep show, and has run-ins with various characters populating the scene, notably, one Blixa Bargeld, played with a creepy intensity by Alexander Scheer. Nick Cave is played by Marc Hosemann. Tod den Hippies premiered at this year’s Berlinale. In cinemas March 26th.

“I think that it’s quite unique what we are doing because it’s not a case of looking back in a nostalgic way at this period,” Arndt explains. “We want to be as authentic as we can, and, at the same time, the film describes how the foundations for today’s culture in the worlds of art and music were established then.” – germanfilms.de
